The World Car of the Year award started in 2005, and our first winner was the Audi A6. Afterwards, the organizers expanded it to five categories encompassing performance, design, luxury, urban, and lastly, the overall winner. For the current year, the award goes to the Volkswagen ID.4.
Among the three finalists, we must say the VW ID.4 was a logical choice. The other two cars include the Honda e and the Toyota Yaris. The ID.4 won due to its spacious and comfortable cabin as well as for its 250-mile of drive range.
As for the other World Car of Year Awards, the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class was honored with World Luxury Car, while the Porsche 911 Turbo received the World Performance Car award. The car generates 572 hp (427 kW) and hit 60 mph in 2.7 seconds.
The Honda e won the World Urban Car award. The EV is currently on sale in European and Japanese markets. The Land Rover Defender took the World Car Design of the Year award.
The annual World Car of the Year Award takes help from 94 global jurors, who review various vehicles. To be eligible for a World Car Award, “vehicles must be sold in at least two of the seven continents for a minimum of one year, spanning from May to May.”
