If you ask the strongest trait of the 2022 Mercedes EQS, it is MBUX Hyperscreen. It is a 56-inch-wide curved glass containing three separate OLED touchscreens. The one in front of the driver is a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. The other in the middle is a 17.7-inch center touchscreen that the driver can use to control infotainment. The front passenger also receives their individual 12.3-inch touchscreen that has a mind of its own. It has a camera system that observes if the driver is glancing at it. If they do, the system deactivates the screen.
If the driver is good enough to keep their eyes on the road, the passenger can employ the secondary display to initiate massage, heating, and ventilation for both the driver and front occupant. The passenger can also change the climate, ambient lighting, and audio settings. Furthermore, the front occupant can play the music they like through Bluetooth earphones and discover and propose navigation to the driver.
To make all this manageable and simple, the automaker has added a “zero layer” into the MBUX infotainment system’s software. When activated, you can see a full-screen map on the center display, supplemented by a fixed audio control on the bottom center and settings on the top left spot. The EQS uses AI to study driver’s preferences and takes action based on that.
Those who are not fond of such a Hyperscreen can get a typical single 12.8-inch, portrait-oriented center touchscreen. It is accessible on the EQS 450 along with a standard 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.
Interior
The interior is not only ultra-luxurious but also incredibly spacious. While the automaker didn’t reveal the official measurement, we won’t be surprised if it is roomier than the S-Class. Many things make the interior splendid, such as the high front row, bridge-style center console, wood trim, door panel cutouts for the hperscreen, rose-toned metal trim on the vents, screen surround, and door panels, and so on.
We can also expect a lot more space in the boot than any other luxury EV in the market.
Tech Features
Like the new S-Class, the 2022 Mercedes EQS gives a strong thought to driver-assist and convenience features. It comes equipped with MBUX Augmented Reality Navigation, which transfers driving directions on a video of the road ahead in the center display. The AR head-up display is optional.
Besides, the owners will benefit from a complete suite of active driver-assistance technology. It encompasses Distronic adaptive cruise control, steering assistance with automated lane changes, and automatic emergency braking for forward, rear, and cross-traffic collisions. In an unfortunate collision incident, the Pre-Safe Impulse Side system lifts the EQS by around 2.8 inches.
Another great feature is Power Nap, which driver can use while charging. When activated, it reclines the front seats, shuts the window and panoramic sunroof shades, and plays calming sounds to obscure diversions outside.
Price and Availability
The 2022 Mercedes EQS will hit the US roads this year with official pricing and EPA estimates to come later on. We won’t be surprised to see the price mirroring the S-Class. For more details on the EQS, please check our previous post.
