Dodge has added another layer of security for two of its most famous sedans, the Challenger and the Charger. When activated, the security feature prevents the driver from using more than 3 horsepower. To activate, the owner has to add a four-digit code into the infotainment screen.
This update is free for everyone using a Charger or Challenger with the model year 2015 or beyond using either the 5.7-liter 392 Hemi V-8 or the supercharged 6.2-liter V-8. These mills are accessible in the Scat Pack and Hellcat models and they yield 485 horsepower and 717 horsepower, correspondingly.
“More than 150 cars are stolen every day in the United States,” Tim Kuniskis, CEO of Dodge, stated. “Though statistically rare, car thieves have targeted the high-horsepower Dodge muscle cars. . .”
For the update, Dodge wants owners to visit their dealerships or call to schedule the update. The security feature will be available from the late second quarter.
