Undoubtedly, Toyota has been leading in the hybrid realm for a long time. However, it is seriously late in the all-electric game. Finally, the automaker has decided to bring its first battery-powered vehicle and it will be an SUV, making its debut at the 2021 Shanghai Motor Show in April. The Toyota electric SUV will ride on the e-TNGA electric vehicle platform.

Toyota has already teased the vehicle and we also have seen some leaked patent images giving us a good idea of the EV. The latest teaser though gives us no idea of the design.

The e-TNGA is capable of spawning front-, rear, and all-wheel drive vehicles with “a wide range of battery and electric motor capacities to suit different vehicle types and uses.”

Of note, the Toyota electric SUV will still be a concept, maybe a little close to the final production form. It will be built in Toyota’s EV-only manufacturing plant in Japan.

While we didn’t hear a word when it will be launched, we believe it will take a couple of years to materialize. More details will emerge as the EV debuts next month.
