Nissan has decided to bump the 2021 Rogue fuel economy rating by introducing a new 1.5L turbo engine. According to FuelEconomy.gov, the 3-cylinder engine will offer 2 to 4 mpg more than the present naturally aspirated 2.5L inline-four. Nissan will test this small-displacement engine and if interest increases, it will stay in the SUV lineup forever.

The 1.5L engine mating to the front-wheel-drive variant will offer around 30 mpg in the city, 37 mpg on the highway and 33 mpg combined. The all-wheel-drive 2021 Nissan Rogue will be 1 mpg less efficient. The engine will pair with a continuously variable automatic transmission.

While Nissan didn’t reveal the power specification of the new turbo engine, we can’t even guess because it is an entirely new powertrain. The company only told us that this engine is part of a pilot program.

More information will be revealed as the 2021 Rogue with 1.5L mill gets ready to roll out in the market. For more details on the specs and pricing, check this article.
