The South Korean automaker has provided the Australian customers with another option in the compact SUV segment by launching the 2021 Kia Stonic. Kia Australia has also recently released the pricing and specification details.
The automaker offers the Stonic in two trim levels: the Stonic Sport (price starting from $24,990) and the Stonic GT-Line (starting from $29,900). The most reasonably priced model, the Stonic S, should hit the roads in the next few months.
Regarding the powertrain, there will be two on offer. The standard mill is a 1.4-liter petrol four-cylinder generating 74kW at 6,000rpm and 133Nm of torque at 4,000rpm. Kia says it will deliver a fuel economy of 6.7 liters per 100 kilometres, and emit 155 grams of CO2 per kilometer. The power goes to front wheels only via a six-speed manual, or an available six-speed automatic.
The range-topping Stonic GT-Line features a 1.0-liter turbocharged petrol three-cylinder engine churning out 74kW at 4,500-6,000rpm and 172Nm of torque at 1,500-4,000rpm. This engine rates at 5.4L/100km and produces 125g/km of CO2. The mill pairs with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, which is the only option available for this trim level.
Get inside, and the 2021 Kia Stonic welcomes you with black cloth trim, an 8.0-inch infotainment screen with satellite navigation and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto capability, various Bluetooth ports, rear-view parking camera and sensors, six-speaker sound system, keyless entry, push-button start, high-beam assist, cruise control, two USB and two 12-volt chargers, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, and a 60:40 split-folding rear seat.
The GT-Line comes with extra goodies like premium black upholstery, sports steering wheel, alloy sports pedals, automatic climate control, and a tilt-and-slide sunroof.
Both the variants of 2021 Kia Stonic offers a range of safety features. These encompass autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist recognition, lane-keep assist, lane-following assist, driver attention alert, leading vehicle departure alert, hill-start assist, speed-sensing auto door locks, two Isofix positions, and front, side, and curtain airbags.
Other standard amenities for both the versions include electric folding heated mirrors and a pair of 17-inch alloy wheels. There are seven paint choices: Clear White, Silky Silver, Perennial Grey, Aurora Black Pearl, Signal Red, Sporty Blue, and Mighty Yellow.
The 2021 Kia Stonic GT-Line also comes equipped with LED daytime running lights, fog-lamps, unique 17-inch alloy wheels, rear diffuser with twin exhaust tips, and an option of four two-tone shades. These include Clear White, Mighty Yellow, Sporty Blue, and Signal Red – all matched with a Black Pearl roof.
The 2021 Kia Stonic offers buyers a seven-year/unlimited-kilometre factory warranty and capped-price servicing. The SUV is currently on sale.
