The American electric carmaker Tesla has introduced the Standard Range model of the Model Y, making the small electric SUV more affordable. Interested customers having at least $43,190 can order the vehicle at the Tesla website. The model will come with standard 19-inch wheels and Tesla’s Autopilot suite of electronic driver-assist facilities.
Earlier, the Tesla Model Y was only accessible in the Long Range and Performance models costing $51,190 and $61,190, respectively.
Although we do not have the EPA-estimated range for the Model Y Standard Range, Tesla believes it will offer 244 miles, against 326 miles for the Long Range and 303 miles for the Performance. Tesla also estimates the 0 to 60 range within 5.3 seconds and a top speed of 135 mph.
The Standard Range Model Y features a single electric motor at the rear for rear-wheel drive. On the other hand, both the Long Range and Performance boast a dual-motor all-wheel-drive set up.
The introduction of the Standard Range in the first quarter of 2021 adds another star in the company’s portfolio that fulfilled its commitment. This new variant will hopefully bolster the company’s sales, which is already doing great in deliveries. Tesla was just a little shy of its half a million unit’s mark last year, which is exceptional considering the Covid-19 restrictions around the world.
