Fiat has decided to stop the production of the 124 Spider two-seat roadster as well as the 500L for the 2021 model year. It means the 500X will be the only model available in the U.S. from Fiat next year. The news came as the company declared the pricing for the 2021 Fiat 500X.

“The Fiat 124 Spider and the Fiat 500L will be discontinued after the 2020 model year,” the automaker stated, with no other explanation.

Introduced in 2017, the 124 Spider has a retro design inspired by the 1960s 124 Spider. It was sharing its platform with the present-generation Mazda MX-5 Miata.

While this may not be good news for Fiat fans, it was hardly a surprise for us. In 2019, Fiat CEO Olivier François stated they might not go for the new generation of the Spider.

With the departure of the 124 Spider and 500L, the only offering from Fiat in the U.S. is 500X which seemed to get the required perks to entice the customers. With just one model left in Fiat showrooms, the company has returned to the same position where it was when it resumed operations in 2011 with the 500 hatchbacks. This model was also abandoned last year as the company introduced a new variant in Europe.

With Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) and France’s PSA Group combining to create Stellantis, the future of the brand is very unsure for the U.S.
