Hennessey has finally unveiled its most anticipated offering, the Venom F5, after over three years of its first reveal. The Taxes-tuner will build it in very limited numbers, 24 to be exact, and the deliveries will start sometime next year after the company fine-tunes this speedster. The performance car firm says this exclusive hypercar will be able to hit a top speed of 311 miles per hour (500 kilometers per hour).
Hennessey Performance engineers fitted a custom-made twin-turbocharged 6.6L V8 in the F5 that generates the power of 1,817 horses (1,354 kilowatts) and 1,193 pound-feet (1,617 Newton-meters) of torque. Flooring the pedal takes it from zero to 100 kilometers per hour in under three seconds while it can reach 200 kph (124 mph) in 4.7 seconds. From here you know, you can hit 500 km/h top speed thank the F’s 2,998-pound (1,360-kilogram) dry weight offering a 1,289-horsepower-per-ton power-to-weight ratio.
The engineers managed to make it so lightweight through a customized carbon-fiber monocoque chassis, the 190-lb (89-kg) carbon tube, and carbon-fiber body panels. Moreover, they designed it to give the driver maximum comfort with a tight cockpit and a steering wheel enthused by an airplane yoke and an F1 race car.
The engineers eliminated the upper portion of the wheel to increase visibility and promote better head positioning according to the seatback. The wheel has switches for lights, windshield wipers, turn signals, and drive modes.
The Hennessey Venom F5 comes offering five drive modes – Sport, Track, Drag, Wet, and F5. The latter is the one you would love to engage to unlock the hypercar’s true potential. As you change the drive mode, the supercar alters its power delivery, braking, and traction.
The power goes to the rear wheels through a seven-speed semi-automatic transmission. Hennessey has fitted 345/50 Michelin Pilot Cup Sport 2 rubber covered in 20-inch wheels at the rear and 265/35 tires with 19-inch forged aluminum wheels on the front. Michelin will make sure the tires can endure the maximum speed and different driving conditions that the Hennessey Venom F5 plans to conquer.
Talking about the engine, it is heavy at 617 pounds (289 kilograms). The company used an all-new cast-iron block, aluminum cylinder heads, and an assertive road cam. Helping the air out of the mill is a stainless steel and Inconel exhaust system using Cerakote, the perfect material to endure the heat.
Not much is there in the packaging department. The automaker is only offering Track Pack, which comes with a more insistent front splitter while swapping the rear spoiler with a wing. The brakes are 15.35-inch carbon-ceramic with 6-piston front and four-piston rear calipers.
Contrary to what Hennessey has been advertising, the pricing has taken a big leap – from $1.8 million to $2.1 million. It was kind of obvious since Hennessey has been delaying this unveiling for a long time. An earlier launch might have made it a little more economical.
