With 16 wins under its belt at LeMans, Porsche is not new to setting the fastest lap records. However, when it comes to the automaker’s electric offering Taycan, it certainly needs to pull some wins to show its true brilliance. To prove it, the Porsche Taycan has recently set the Road Atlanta lap record for EVs.
The 2.5-miles Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta is a high-speed track with 12 corners and a long straight. While you may think it would be an easy circuit, it definitely needs the expertise to complete a fast lap here. Behind the wheels was proficient racing driver Leh Keen who was able to complete the lap in 1 minute 33.88 seconds while driving the Taycan Turbo S.
The surprising thing is, Porsche did not make any changes in the car to set the Road Atlanta lap record. The only adjustment was in the tire pressures, which were set to offer a hot pressure of 41 PSI at all four tires. The Taycan Turbo S comes equipped with rear-wheel steering, adaptive air suspension, and torque vectoring.
“This track is unforgiving, meaning you have to trust the car completely,” said Keen. “The electric motors respond so quickly, the power is right there when I need it, and combined with the active differentials, makes the Taycan a game-changer when it comes to handling.”
