Bugatti first introduced the Bolide in renderings in October claiming a top speed of 311 mph (500 km/h). While we had no doubts it is a real deal after an automotive journalist took a real close look, we now have the actual images of the beast.
Yes, the track-only hypercar is a real monster that can produce 1,825 horsepower (1,361 kilowatts) out of the famous W16 mill. The engineers made alterations to it by adding new turbochargers and allowing it to consume 110-octane racing fuel to unlock its true potential.
The Bugatti Bolide rides on the Chiron platform but it is treated with loads of carbon fiber, titanium, and other materials to reduce the weight and improve performance. The result is a 2,734 lbs (1,240 kg) race machine that can make almost the similar downforce as you see in Formula 1 cars.
With this power, the automaker claims it can lap Le Mans in 3 minutes 7.1 seconds, and run the 12.9-mile Nürburgring Nordschleife in only 5 minutes 23.1 seconds. That’s very close to the Porsche 919 Hybrid EVO, which currently has the crown completing it in 5 minutes 19.5 seconds.
While Bugatti is stressing the reality of the Bolide, they didn’t unleash it on the track yet. The company also did not reveal whether they plan to produce this track monster for customers or not. All we know so far, the Bugatti Bolide is a one-off creation to show the automaker’s expertise on a track.
