The rainy and foggy weather calls for extra vigilance, and avoid bad driving habits. To make your commutes safer, the police authorities warn you against common traffic violations people make in bad weather conditions. Here are a few of them you should avoid at all costs.
1. Taking pictures when driving
Taking photos while driving is punishable by law in the UAE. Using your phone behind the wheels increases the chances of accidents by 32%, RTA revealed in a statement. You have to endure a Dh800 fine and four black points.
2. Driving with your hazard lights on
Driving in rainy and foggy conditions with hazard lights on is another common traffic violation we witness here, which will slap you with a Dh500 fine and four black points. It is dangerous because the cars behind will never know which way you will turn. You should only use the hazard lights when you stop your vehicle on the roadside, most likely due to a breakdown.
3. Changing Lanes Without Indicator
Motorists here in the UAE do not use indicators in 47% of lane change and lane turning instances, according to a report issued by RoadSafetyUAE in 2019. While it is dangerous to change lanes without an indicator, its importance increases in low visibility conditions. You can receive a Dh400 fine for this violation.
4. Irresponsible Driving
Irresponsible driving means driving in such a way that puts the lives of others on the road in danger. It encompasses blocking traffic, jumping red light, make a sudden swerve, and so on. If you are found driving irresponsibly, you will have to bear a heavy fine of Dh2,000. You will also receive 23 black points and police will seize your vehicle for 60 days.
