So, the rumors were true. The Lamborghini Huracan STO (Super Trofeo Omologata) road-legal racecar is here based on Squadra Corse’s race cars, replacing the Huracan Performante. It slots above the Huracan EVO and will be available with only a rear-wheel configuration.
If you think it is just another derivative of Huracan, you are mistaken. The automaker made lots of changes to make it an ultimate track machine while remaining road-legal. It is actually 43 kilograms (95 pounds) lighter than the Performante thanks to extensive use of carbon fiber.
Moreover, the windscreen is now 20% lighter compared to the Performante. The standard wheels are 20-inch magnesium sporting Bridgestone Potenza tires. These are available both in road and track configurations. Overall, the Lamborghini Huracan STO just weighs 1,339 kg (2,951 lbs), which is as light as a typical three-cylinder compact car.
The engineers performed a number of tweaks to make the STO 37% more aerodynamic than the Performante. It gets the Brembo CCM-R carbon-ceramic setup originated from F1 cars. It offers better thermal conductivity, stress resistance, and stopping power. The supercar also provides drivers three new driving modes namely STO, Trophy, and Rain.
Surprisingly, the Lamborghini Huracan STO comes with the same power as delivered by the all-wheel-drive Huracan Evo and the rear-wheel-drive Huracan Performante. The naturally aspirated 5.2L V10 pumps out 630 horsepower (470 kilowatts). Another unexpected factor is torque. It offers 565 Newton-meters (417 pound-feet) of torque instead of the 600 Nm (443 lb-ft) offered by the Performante and EVO.
Talking about the shade customization, buyers will be able to choose any paint and finish through the Ad Personam program. The one we see in the pictures here is finished in Blue Laufey and California Orange. The same combination continues inside. The seats are carbon fiber and so are many other parts that use this lightweight element to save weight.
Talking about the performance figures, the Lamborghini Huracan STO is a mean racing machine. It is true to what it is built for i.e. quick on the toes and achieve an insane speed. The supercar is capable to hit 100 km/h in only 3.0 seconds. The 0-200 km/h time is also very impressive at 9.0 seconds. The top speed is limited to 310 km/h. The STO can come to standstill from 100 km/h in 30 meters.
Seeing the impressive design and features of the Lamborghini Huracan STO, one can easily say it won’t be cheap. Yes, it is not. It wears a $327,838 price tag, which is a lot higher than the $208,571 Huracan Evo RWD. Probably, we can compare it better to the all-wheel-drive Huracan Evo, which started off with a $261,274 price sticker. Comparing the price to the $274,390 Performante, it is again costlier.
The company plans to start the deliveries in the next spring.
