If you are considering selling your car, you should know what happens to your Salik tag. Can you transfer it to a new owner or you have to deactivate it?
Bear in mind, you cannot transfer the Salik tag to the new owner, so they have to buy a new tag. What you need to do is remove the tag from the car and deactivate it from your account.
RTA Dubai says, if you fail to do deactivate the Salik tag, any toll fees will be charged to you. In case, you do not have any balance in your account, you may also be fined.
How to Deactivate the Salik Tag?
· Login to your Salik account on Smart Salik App, at www.salik.gov.ae, or by calling the 24-hour Salik self-service portal on 800 Salik (72545).
· Once you log in, click on ‘remove vehicle from Salik account.’
· Select the vehicle registration number you are selling.
· Delete the car from your Salik account
What if You Have Any Remaining Balance in the Salik Account?
In case you have any remaining balance in your Salik account, it will stay there for five years. You can use this balance for any vehicle you own. If you will not use the balance for five years, it will be forfeited.
