Ruler of Dubai, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has passed a decree that allows Dubai Police to use their security cameras in public.

The security cameras can be used to investigate accidents and other traffic-related incidents on the roads. With this decision, the authorities want to bolster the resident’s trust in the police force, defend their privileges, safeguard clarity and responsibility, and improve documentation of police dealings.

While Police can employ these cameras to safeguard public privacy, they are strictly prohibited to transfer, store, transmit, or publish the video recordings without the approval of authorities.

Any officer who will violate the ruling will be subject to disciplinary action. The law is effective from Wednesday 26th August.
