After introducing the P1 and Speedtail, McLaren is now working to creating a dedicated platform for electrified vehicles. The first McLaren Hybrid supercar that will use this platform may arrive anytime next year.
Not much is known about the next McLaren hybrid but we do know that it will be lighter and safer than previous offerings due to the extensive use of carbon fiber and other advanced production techniques. McLaren says their new platform depends on “innovative, world-first processes and techniques to strip out excess mass, reduce overall vehicle weight, while also further improving safety attributes.”
It will just be a start for the automaker in the electrified domain as the new platform is adaptable, meaning it will underpin many other cars in the future. It has “greater structural integrity and higher levels of quality,” as said by McLaren Automotive CEO, Mike Flewitt. In fact, it will even spawn a pure electric McLaren.
To pursue its ambitions, the company has opened the McLaren Composites Technology Center in Sheffield.
