Meet the VW Golf GTI GTE HyRACER created by a team of trainees at Volkswagen Retail Group Germany. The team was part of an apprenticeship program in Autostadt, Wolfsburg, where they were tasked to transform the VW Golf GTI under a few month’s time.
The team first revealed the HyRACER concept, where “Hy” means hybrid, and “RACER” means the sporty nature of the car.
“Once a year, the most passionate fans of the Volkswagen brand and especially the Golf GTI meet to exchange ideas and celebrate together,” stated Jürgen Stackmann, a board member for sales at the Volkswagen brand. “Not only the fans but also our trainees have been looking forward to these days for many years.”
The company did not provide complete details of the powertrain but we know the hybrid powertrain generates 248 horsepower (185 kilowatts).
Other additions made to the GTI include a bespoke body kit created by the group of trainees. It comprises of a front splitter, flared fenders, rear diffuser, and a roof spoiler featuring an Arteon brake light. Furthermore, the engineering team developed black powder-coated 19-inch wheels.
The VW Golf GTI GTE HyRACER looks very impressive and we believe it could have been even better if the team would have more time for this custom project.
