Meet the Ford Mustang Mach-E 1400, a one-off prototype created by Ford Performance and RTR Vehicles to showcase the true potential of electric powertrains. As the name suggests, it creates the power of 1,400 horses, thanks to the seven motors the engineers have installed in the vehicle.
Out of these seven, three of them are fixed on the front axle of the electric crossover SUV while the remaining ones are at the rear. What makes this powertrain so special are electronic differentials that send torque according to the selected driving styles. The driver also gets the liberty to choose either front-, rear-, or all-wheel-drive.
Feeding energy to the seven motors is a 56.8-kilowatt-hour battery boasting nickel manganese cobalt cells, rendering a good discharge rate.
To tame this electric beast, Ford installed Brembo brakes taken from the Mustang GT4 race car, a hydraulic handbrake created for drifting, and an aerodynamics package to create an enormous 2,300 pounds of downforce at 258 km/h.
Vaughn Gittin Jr., an expert drifter and creator of RTR Vehicles, said, “This experience is like nothing you’ve ever imagined, except for maybe a magnetic roller coaster.”
Ford will display the Mustang Mach-E 1400 during the next NASCAR race. The production model of the Mach-E, however, will hit the roads in the last quarter of this year at a starting price of $44,995.
