The German automaker has broadcasted the first episode of the 2021 Mercedes S-Class interior with minimal buttons & switches, and 5 displays. The next-gen S-Class will come with a totally new interior.
Drivers can activate most of the functions through touch, swipe, voice, or hand gestures, and there are five screens. These include a fully digital instrument cluster, a big touchscreen infotainment system, and three screens at the back. The OLED technology is optional for those looking to enjoy shaper visuals. Moreover, the automaker is giving a choice of a head-up display with augmented reality (AR) support along with HUD.
About the digital instrument cluster, Mercedes says, “In this innovative auto-stereoscopic display, this [3D effect] is achieved by the sophisticated combination of a conventional LCD display with a special pixel structure and a controllable LCD aperture grille. What is known as a barrier mask is positioned a few millimeters in front of the LCD? It is so precisely adjusted to the head position of the viewer that the left and right eye see different pixels of the LCD.
This creates the desired impression of depth. A stereo camera system is integrated into the display. This is used to precisely determine the eye position of the viewer. Thanks to methods developed by Mercedes-Benz to adapt distances and a very low-latency system configuration, the driver enjoys a wide range of free movement. The image in the driver display is continuously adjusted.”
Besides all these, the 2021 Mercedes S-Class has a much innovative voice assistance system that can recognize 27 languages.
