The Polestar 1 high-performance plug-in hybrid, the brand’s first electrified model, has just got its EPA rating, and surprisingly it is just over half of what Polestar revealed earlier.
The electric performance brand initially disclosed 150 km (93 miles) of all-electric range but it came out just 83.7 km (52 miles). That looks good on the chart of PHEVs but this rating is very low considering the Polestar 1 uses the 34 kWh battery.
Consider the 2020 Karma Revero GT that delivers 98.2 km (61 miles) range with its 28 kWh battery. Even the Chevy bolt offers 85 km (53 miles) range with its 18.4 kWh battery. However, the comparison might not be right here because the Bolt is not a performance machine. The Revero GT is!
The main issue here is related to Polestar 1’s energy consumption (58 MPGe – 581 Wh/mi (361 Wh/km) in the EV mode. The 26 MPG in hybrid mode is perfect for the PHEV and goes in parallel to the new Karma.
Polestar plans to develop 1,500 units of the Polestar 1 in three years. It starts at $155,000 without a tax credit.
