The Japanese automaker has introduced the redesigned 2021 Nissan Kicks with an e-Power system for the first time in the Thai-market. The e-Power tech is already available in Japan but for the rest of the world, it is a big revolution.
The e-Power system makes the Kicks essentially an Electric Vehicle, which self-charges through its combustion engine. The new Kicks features the EM57 electric motor exclusively powering the front wheels creating 127 horsepower and 260 Newton-meters of torque.
The electric motor gets its juice from a 1.57 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. However, this battery doesn’t recharge through a conventional charging system. It takes power from the 1.2L, three-cylinder combustion engine generating 79 horsepower. The engine does need fuel to work but the battery gets the juice solely through a generator.
While the best thing about the 2021 Kicks is the new powertrain, we can see visible changes on the front fascia. It boasts a restructured and larger V-Motion grille, lower bumper, and foglamp coverings.
We are not sure if the 2021 Nissan Kicks e-Power will hit the UAE market, but seeing the government’s emphasis on environmental-friendly cars, we believe it will. We didn’t hear about the pricing yet but expect it to be more costly than the 2020 Kicks, which starts at AED 63,500. Stay tuned for new developments on this subject.
