It has been six years since Toyota seriously thought about updating its mid-size crossover SUV Harrier. Fans who have been eagerly waiting for a major update would be happy to know that the Japanese automaker is going to unveil the next-generation 2021 Toyota Harrier in June.

The new Harrier will use the TNGA-K architecture and will give buyers two powertrain options. The Hybrid and the Gasoline variant. The Harrier Hybrid will carry a 2.5L inline-four direct-injection engine assisted by one or two electric motors as per its configuration. The front-wheel-drive variant will pump out 218 horsepower while the all-wheel-drive version will do even better with 222 hp on tap. The hybrid will use an electric continuously variable transmission.

The petrol-powered 2021 Toyota Harrier will come equipped with a 2.0L engine yielding 171 hp at 6,600 rpm and 207 Newton-meters of torque at 4,800 rpm. The power goes to the wheels via a direct-shift CVT transmission. Both the hybrid and the gasoline models will be accessible in FWD and AWD layouts.

Toyota has given good thoughts to the safety of this crossover SUV and added Safety Sense family of technologies. It also encompasses the pre-collision safety system, which works both during the day and the night to notice walkers as well as bikers (only in the day time). The vehicle will also be automakers first to boast a digital cabin mirror.

More details will surface closer to its launch in June 2020.
