Japan has become the first country, which has made Automatic Headlights compulsory for Japanese new car models. Although automatic headlights aren’t a new phenomenon, most cars do not come equipped with this function. Driving Vision News informed that all new cars that hit the Japanese dealerships from April 2020 should have these lights.

The news agency reported that these automatic headlight systems will remain On all the time unlike the normal automatic type, which the driver can switch off at will.

These new headlights will follow the UN Regulation No. 48, meaning that these will turn on automatically within two seconds as soon as they sense the light level less than 1,000 lux, or about 15 minutes prior to dusk on a clear day. The lights will turn off automatically when they sense more than 7,000 lux ambient light.

The Japanese authorities have made this move keeping in view the increasing accidents at dusk, mostly involving senior citizens and bicyclists. These automatic headlights will not only provide the drivers with a clearer view but will also be helpful for the pedestrians, thus will alleviate the risks of mishaps.
