Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) Dubai has made all bus rides free for residents who have to go out to buy groceries or medicine during the 24-hours sterilization campaign. Furthermore, Taxis operating under RTA as well as franchised taxis will provide commuters 50% discount on fares during the two-week cleansing program.
The notice came after Dubai’s Supreme Committee of Crisis and Disaster Management and the Command and Control Center for Combating COVID-19 extended the sterilization campaign for 14 more days throughout Dubai. After 2 weeks, the authorities will decide if they need to extend it further or end the disinfection program.
RTA also announced the suspension of Metro and Tram services during the cleansing campaign and requested the support of residents to make this campaign successful.

Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), stated that they are doing everything they can to provide people a safe and secure environment. “The measures aim to help members of the public who need to leave their homes for essential purposes and those who work in vital sectors. The decision underscores the RTA’s commitment to support the efforts made by Dubai and the UAE to combat the novel coronavirus and reduce the risk of its spread to the minimum.”
RTA has been very active lately following the highest standards of safety for the comfort and security of the community. All these measures will be successful only when people will stay at home and maintain social distancing on public transport and at grocery centers.
