Luxury automaker Mercedes-Benz has modified its world-famous logo to encourage social distancing amid global coronavirus fears. The change in Mercedes logo places the brand amongst several other automotive giants – including Audi and Volkswagen – that have also changed their logos in support of social distancing.
The well-recognized Mercedes logo depicts a three-pointed star surrounded by a circle. In an attempt to reinforce social distancing, Mercedes has changed the logo by shortening the length of the star’s arms such that the spikes do not touch the circle.
The automaker uploaded the new logo on its official Facebook page, accompanied by a caption that encourages people to collaborate during this time and stay home. The uploaded logo and caption garnered wide exposure through user reactions and comments.
Automakers all over the world have been temporarily forced to shut down factories to contain the coronavirus outbreak. Individuals and corporations are observing strict social distancing and isolation measures globally to fight this pandemic.
Recently, Volkswagen and Audi released videos with messages to promote social distancing and changed their respective logos for the same cause by adding space between elements. Several other companies outside the auto industry have also altered their logos to support social distancing, McDonald’s is one example.
