Morris Garages (MG) Motor stunned every expert at the 2020 Middle East Car Of The Year Awards (MECOTY) and won three awards. The MG HS crossover achieved the 2020 Middle East Car of the Year and Best Sub-compact Crossover honor, thanks to its dynamic design and a range of advanced features. Fourteen journalists and motoring professionals from Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, analyzed different vehicles and picked the best among all. In addition, the MG 5 won the Best Sub-compact Sedan accolade, which shows the MG Motor’s advanced craftsmanship and their ability to fulfill customer demands in this most congested car segment.
Talking about the all-new MG HS first, the crossover carries a 2.0L turbo engine generating 231 horsepower. It has a bold exterior design sporting sequential LED tail and headlamps with a unique trophy badge. The best you would find inside. The interior gives a sporty feel. The salient features include a wide panoramic sunroof, Alcantara electric driver and passenger bucket sports seats, and a 10.1-inch HD infotainment touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple Carplay compatibility. Thanks to the rear-view camera, rear parking sensors, cruise control, hill-start assist, lane departure warning system and curtain airbags, the vehicle has received an E-NCAP 5 Star safety rating.
The Middle East’s ‘Best Sub-compact Sedan’, the new MG5 does not fall behind by any means. The automaker has completely revamped its design to attract young buyers. People would love to see a bold exterior design complemented by a 10.1” touch screen with Android Auto and Apple Car Play, 360 camera plus rear parking sensors, an electric sunroof, and electric seats.
Both these cars from MG offer customers a best-in-region 6 years/200,000 km manufacturer’s warranty.
Saeed Marzouqui, Chairman, Organizing Committee MECOTY, stated: “As a brand, MG is currently making waves among the Middle East motoring scene. Its range of excellent new models are being snapped up in record numbers across the region, and our jury members have had the opportunity to experience for themselves just how good the new MG line-up really is.
“Beautifully designed and well made, the MG HS is an eye-catching mid-size SUV, packed with the latest features and cleverly straddling the line between a premium package and competitive pricing. It may surprise some, but it is a truly worthy winner of the 2020 Middle East Car of the Year.”
Tom Lee, Managing Director of MG Motor Middle East, stated: “We are very proud that the MG HS has won the top honor at the 2020 Middle East Car of the Year Awards. For one of our models to take the region’s leading motoring accolade less than five years after the brand’s return is without a doubt a fantastic achievement and comes at a time when more customers across the region are buying MG cars than ever before. To get the better of the very best new models available in the market, across 29 categories, and competing with brands ranging from the established Japanese and Korean manufacturers right up to the big luxury marques, is the clearest possible endorsement of the quality of the current MG line-up.”
The MG HS starts from AED 68,000, while the MG 5 costs AED 37,000 in the UAE.
