Kia has been teasing the Sorento for quite some time until they unveiled it last month. Following the introduction, the automaker revealed some of its details but now they have provided complete specifications of this family hauler. Seeing the table, we must say it is really impressive.
As revealed earlier, Kia gave the Sorento an electric shock fusing a 1.6L turbocharged gasoline direct injection engine with 44.2-kW electric motor. The motor gets power from a 1.49-kWh lithium-ion polymer battery to generate a combined output of 227 horsepower (169 kilowatts) and 350 Newton-meters of torque. Power goes to all the wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission. The SUV also boasts a transmission-mounted electrical device, permitting “the full power of the engine and motor to be transferred in parallel with minimal loss of energy.”
The 2021 Kia Sorento Hybrid will hit specific European markets from the start by the end of this year followed by a plug-in hybrid model. The diesel variant will also be available here from the start. It will carry a 2.2L diesel motor good for 199 hp (148 kW) and 440 Nm of torque, mated to a new eight-speed automatic transmission. The automaker didn’t reveal the fuel economy figures yet.
The new 2021 Kia Sorento will also be available with a 2.5L turbocharged gas engine in select markets. This powerful mill can generate 277 hp (207 kW) and 421 Nm of torque, and pairs with the same eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
The safety features encompass forward collision and avoidance assist, blind-spot view monitor, surround view monitor, blind-spot collision-avoidance assist, Smart Cruise Control with Stop&Go (SCC) and Navigation-based SCC (NSCC), Lane Following Assist (LFA), Driver Attention Warning (DAW), and Highway Driving Assist (HDA).
Kia will use its development plant at West Point, Georgia to develop Sorentos for North America. The European and worldwide deliveries will be made from the automaker’s Hwasung production plant in South Korea. The sales in Europe will start in the third quarter of this year.
