Volkswagen forayed into the all-electric realm with the ID.3 compact hatchback last year and now the company introduced the ID.4, the brand’s first zero-emission crossover. Based on the VW ID. Crozz concept, it will be the first ID model to reach the U.S. soil. Other markets that will receive this all-electric vehicle will be Europe and China.
The Volkswagen ID.4 crossover rides on the company’s modular electric drive matrix (MEB) platform, which allows it to transform to any shape and drive layout. The vehicle will be accessible in both rear-wheel and all-wheel-drive layouts. However, at the start, the ID.4 will come equipped with a rear-wheel drive. To make the drive smooth and balanced, the engineers have fit the battery in the middle of the vehicle.
For the interior, the automaker has used a minimalistic approach, where most functions are “operated primarily by using touch surfaces and intelligent, intuitive voice control.” The automaker says the crossover will offer up to 805 kilometers of range.
The VW electric ID.4 will hit the roads later this year.
