After revealing the pictures of the fourth-generation Sorento, Kia has now publicized the specs of this midsize SUV. The public unveiling will take place at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show, followed by a local launch for the Middle East & African markets. The refreshed 2021 Kia Sorento will be available here summer onward.
Seeing the changes inside and out, we can bluntly say that Kia has done a wonderful job. The new Sorento is bigger, lighter, safer, and electrified. The automaker added 0.4 inches in length that makes it 189.3 long. The wheelbase improves by 1.37 inches and now measures 110.8 inches. It is also taller (66.9 in) and wider (74.8 in) than before.
Thanks to these revisions, the 2021 Kia Sorento now has “more comfortable interior space.” Moreover, it offers six seats where third-row seats can be adjusted to create more cargo room.
The best thing about this next-gen Sorento is the availability of multiple powertrains. In South Korea, it will be available in hybrid powertrain featuring a turbocharged 1.6L gasoline engine, which is assisted by an electric motor. The engine is capable of pumping out 177 horsepower and 265 Newton-meters of torque while the electric motor will generate 59 hp and 264 Nm. Both the units will create 227 hp and 350 Nm of torque in total.
Power-hungry souls would be happy to opt for the 2.5L turbocharged gasoline engine good for 277 hp and 421 Nm. The engine gets assistance from a Kia-first wet double-clutch automatic transmission.
For diesel fans, Kia offers a 2.2L turbodiesel engine that churns out 199 hp and a whopping 440 Nm of torque. Moreover, the automaker has plans to offer a plug-in hybrid as well as a few high-performance gasoline turbocharged engines.
As revealed earlier, the 2021 Kia Sorento is lighter than before – 80 kilograms to be exact. Thanks to the use of lightweight materials and a new platform, it is also more athletic and safer, boasting eight airbags. Furthermore, it offers a first for any Kia or Hyundai model i.e. a suite of collision avoidance automatic braking systems.
The pricing details are unknown yet but we know that the ongoing model of Sorento starts at AED 86,900. We expect the price will be higher than the 2020 model.
