We all know that littering from your car is offensive behavior, yet we see many drivers and passengers throwing out garbage in moving vehicles. Last year, Abu Dhabi police charged 355 drivers for this offense and they have now started another campaign to curb this nasty habit.

The police published a Facebook post recently in which they reminded motorists that dumping rubbish while driving can impose a Dh1,000 fine and six black points on the license. The heavy fine shows how bad this offense is in the eyes of authorities. It seriously hurts the environment.

The Traffic and Patrols Directorate of the Central Operations Sector urged drivers to never throw out waste from their vehicles, no matter what is the reason. The passengers too should not throw out the garbage, even if it’s a gum wrapper. We must all contribute toward preserving the environment and act as a responsible citizen.

Colonel Saif Hamad Al Zaabi, Director of the Abu Dhabi Traffic Department at the Directorate, advises motorists to keep a bin inside the vehicle for waste and throw it in a garbage disposal bin.
