Shelby SuperCars has finally showcased the first example of the Tuatara at the Philadelphia Auto Show. Limited to only 100 examples, the 2020 SCC Tuatara took nearly a decade to materialize and reach to its customers.
The hypercar with its wild looks isn’t unfamiliar for us. We know it features a twin-turbocharged 5.9L V8 that pumps out 1,750 horsepower if you use E85. On 91 Octane, the power output dips to 1,350 hp. This huge power routes to the wheels via a robotized CIMA seven-speed transmission, which can shift gears in less than 100 milliseconds. SCC made the hypercar very light at 1,247 kilograms. The drag coefficient of 0.279 should help it to break speed barriers easily.
To make it lightweight, the automaker used carbon fiber at multiple places including the monocoque. The biggest highlight of the hypercar is its dihedral doors, which can open through a button. The famous Jason Castriota, who designed a number of Ferraris and Maseratis, is behind this sophisticated creation.
Get inside and you will experience top-quality audio, a touchscreen infotainment system, climate control, power windows, and a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel. The driving modes, vehicle diagnostics, entertainment, and other features can be operated through a touchscreen. Even it looks incredibly low, the Tuatara can accommodate a 6-feet, 5-inches individual easily with a racing helmet on.
SCC didn’t reveal the price but we know it will be higher than the $1.3 million per unit price they proposed 7 years ago. While we are not sure if it will attempt a top speed record like its predecessor Ultimate Aero, we do know through the company that the 2020 SCC Tuatara will be able to hit 483 kilometer per hour maximum speed (300 mph) on a straight line.
