The 2020 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid has finally reached American shores after its debut in its domestic market last year. The biggest highlight of this model is its 52 mpg combined fuel economy for the Blue trim.
The new Sonata Hybrid carries a 2.0L four-cylinder engine yielding 150 horsepower and 189 Newton-meters of torque. The engine is assisted by an electric motor that adds 51 hp and 205 Nm of torque to the output. The power goes to the wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission that uses Hyundai’s Active Shift Control system for efficient shifting. Hyundai says it minimizes shift times by 30%.
As mentioned earlier, the Blue grade is most fuel-efficient delivering 50 miles per gallon city, 54 mpg highway, and 52 mpg combined. Moreover, it offers an exceptional 1,104-kilometer driving range. The SEL and Limited trims are rated at 45 mpg city, 51 mpg highway, and 47 mpg combined.
The 2020 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid offers another advantage in the shape of an on-roof solar panel, which adds a couple of miles in the driving range. The automaker says, using this system for a year will give an extra 1,127 km drive range.
Although the hybrid appears similar to the standard Sonata, Hyundai made some efforts to make it more aerodynamic by adding active grille flaps, air deflectors, and by optimizing the wheel spokes.
Take a peep inside and you will find an 8-inch infotainment screen, which you can upgrade to a 10.25-inch display. There are many standard driver-assist features such as Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, and Advanced Smart Cruise Control with Stop and Go.
The pricing details are not revealed yet but we know it will be higher than the regular Sonata, which starts at AED 76,000 for 2019 MY.
