The Chinese EV startup Nio has introduced a new crossover SUV named EC6 to take on Audi E-Tron Sportback. Based on the ES6, the Nio EC6 looks sharper and sleeker with a drag coefficient of 0.27 Cd.
The Nio EC6 will be available in Standard and Performance powertrains. The Performance variant will have motors on both the axles, which will jointly produce 533 horsepower. This colossal power will enable the crossover to hit 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds only.
The EC6 will be the first vehicle from the automaker that offers the new 100-kilowatt-hour battery. This batter will also be accessible on other models. The battery has enough juice to clock 483 km on a single charge.
The best thing about Nio batteries is their swapping feature at a battery swap facility. This facility is automated, where machines perform the battery swap.
The automaker has plans to launch the Nio EC6 by September 2020. The pricing details will be announced closer to the launch. The utility vehicle is China exclusive at the moment, but the company plans to move to Europe and, ultimately the U.S. very soon.
Although Nio is offering ultra-modern electric vehicles, the company hasn’t been able to make much profits so far. Last year was again very tough for the automaker, as they reported a net loss of $352.8 million. However, the last quarter was better, with sales going up by 22.5% compared to the earlier quarter. Similarly, the yearly loss has also gone down by 10.3%.
Let’s see if this new offering will be able to turn the tables for the company.
