Türkiye’nin Otomobili Girişim Grubu (TOGG), turkey’s new national car brand, displayed the production-ready prototypes of their first electric sedan and SUV at an event in Gebze, Istanbul. The event by graced by Turkey’s President, Tayyip Erdogan, who was requested to take a test drive of these vehicles, according to Daily Sabah.

Regarding the features of the first electric sedan and SUV, we searched through TOGG’s website and found they have only listed the SUV there, which makes us believe it will hit the roads first. The SUV has an attractive exterior styling inspired by Anatolia. The interior is spacious and futuristic with user-centric technology.

We heard the standard powertrain would generate 200 horsepower while people looking for better performance will be able to select a bigger high-energy Li-ion battery for 400 horsepower. The standard battery will deliver 300+ km of range while the high-performance battery will be able to provide 500+ km of range. Owners can get 80% of charge in less than 30 minutes.

The automaker plans to start production of the SUV in 2022 at a new plant, currently under construction. At this plant, TOGG will produce a total of five vehicles including the two they just revealed.

The vehicles were engineered by Turkey Scientific and Technical Research Council, while the design was created by Italy’s Pininfarina.

Bear in mind, this is not the first time Turkey is launching its own automotive brand. They first tried it with Devrim in 1961 but their prototypes couldn’t reach production lines because they have to abandon the project.
