Abu Dhabi Police have started a social media campaign aiming at child safety on the front seat. According to the rule, a child under ten years of age or less than 145 cm in height should not take the front seat. Anyone violating this rule has to bear Dh400 fine.
The campaign also emphasizes the importance of child seats, which can make a big difference between life and death in the event of a collision. The authorities introduced a new child seat law in 2017. Studies show that there has been an 80% decline in death or severe injuries for kids using child seats.

“An infant car seat is designed to protect your child in the event of a crash by forming a protective cocoon. Newborn seats are placed facing rearward so that a child will be pushed into the seat on front-impact and the shell and inlay protect the spine and vital parts of the child,” RoadSafetyUAE clarified.
A child seat has a ‘side impact protection system’ and the seatbelts strap, both of which protect the child in the event of a collision. Please note, a child seat is not meant for the front cabin, so the driver must ensure child safety on the front seat himself.
