Mercedes-Benz EQA was first revealed during the 2016 Frankfurt Motor Show as a zero-emission three-door hatchback, and we were happy with its design. But later things changed as the company decided to swap the hatchback with a five-door crossover, mainly due to the popular demand of the crossovers around the world. Based on the 2nd Generation GLA, the automaker recently released a teaser image of the EQA crossover during an online event arranged to introduce the new GLA.

The spy shots of the EQA suggest that it will look very similar to its gasoline-powered sibling, but of course, there will be subtle changes such as aero wheels, closed-off grille, and others, which will distinguish it from the typical GLA.

The automaker plans to first electrify the GLA crossover bringing a plug-in hybrid electric model with around 70 kilometers of electric range. This model will probably have lots of resemblance with the production Mercedes-Benz EQA.

The company built the EQA concept on its Modular Electric Architecture (MEA) containing a 60 kW battery pack powering a dual electric motor setup. The concept was capable of generating 268 bhp and 369 lb-ft of torque. Mercedes claimed it could deliver approximately 400 km of range on a single charge. We are not sure if the production version of the EQA will also have the same specs or not. Expect to see full specs before the launch!

The Mercedes-Benz EQA will debut sometime next year and will be the automaker’s second EV after EQC.
