The Korean automaker revealed the 2020 KIA Optima last month in South Korea (named K5 in the home country) and now they have provided us with details of its interior and the powertrain. The production versions will hit the roads in the first half of 2020, including the UAE.
Although the powertrain details are different for different markets, we know, for most parts of the world, the 2020 KIA Optima will still be carrying its well-known 1.6L turbocharged four-cylinder generating 178 horsepower and 265 Newton-meters of torque. The front-wheel-drive is standard while AWD is optional.
KIA is going to offer a new 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder as well for the sporty Optima GT pumping out 286 hp and 422 Nm of torque. The powerful engine can propel this model to 100 kilometers per hour in 6.6 seconds only. The engine will be paired with a new eight-speed dual-clutch transmission or a typical eight-speed automatic with a torque converter.
In the UAE markets, the 2019 model is available with two engine options i.e. a 2.0-liter four-cylinder and a 2.4L GDI four-liter churning out 180 kW and 138 kW respectively, mated to a six-speed automatic. On the other hand, the international markets have a 150 hp 2.0L with continuously-variable valve lift function, and a 2.5L with 191 hp and 246 Nm of torque. These markets may receive a hybrid version of the Optima, as well.
Regarding the interior of the 2020 KIA Optima, the automaker is offering a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and an optional 10.25-inch infotainment screen placed above the dashboard along with an 8-inch optional head-up display. The sedan will pack plenty of safety features including the new Remote Smart Parking Assist.
We are expecting to see the new Optima before the end of summer 2020.
