The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has rated the 2020 Porsche Taycan Turbo at 323 km for 93.4-kilowatt-hour battery, which is a little lower than the expected range.
Comparing it to the Tesla Model S Performance with a 100-kWh battery and 19-inch wheels, the range is 237 km less. But we can’t blame Porsche much for that since Taycan Turbo is an Electric SUV that generates immense power and has a huge curb weight. When we compare it with other e-SUVs like Audi e-Tron and Jaguar I-Pace, we find the Taycan Turbo pretty close to their ratings. The e-Tron and I-Pace deliver 328 km and 377 km of range, respectively.
Coming to the reasons why the 2020 Porsche Taycan Turbo got the lowest rating by any EV, we first need to consider the powertrain, which generates 616 horsepower and 626 pound-feet of torque. Do not forget, with launch control, the Turbo can churn out as much as 670 hp. Other factors that contribute to its lower rating is the curb weight of 5,121 pounds and less severe regenerative braking.
One thing that differs the 2020 Porsche Taycan Turbo from other EVs is the consistent drive range in different driving conditions. It doesn’t matter if you drive it fast, in extremely cold weather or under the hot sun in the Gulf, the EV range will remain almost the same. Other electric vehicles become less efficient (approximately 30%) in such conditions.
EPA did not reveal the range for Taycan Turbo S and Taycan 4S. The latter would be more efficient than the Turbo due to the shorter battery sizes of 79.2 and 93.4 kwh.
