The new 2020 Range Rover Evoque is here, and we got a chance recently to test drive the luxury SUV. Before we compile our findings of the test drive, we would like to share with you what’s different in this compact SUV.
The SUV got better in design thanks to a unique coupé-like silhouette, characterized by its typical fast roofline and expanding waist. The vehicle looks more dominant owing to its noticeable shoulders and commanding wheel arches. Other prominent features outside include super-slim Matrix LED headlamps, flush door handles, and sweeping directional indicators.
Finbar McFall, Global Marketing Director, Jaguar Land Rover, stated: “Eight years ago we created a new segment and the world followed. Now we have redefined what it means to be a luxury compact SUV. With design and capability at its heart and the latest technology to hand, the new Range Rover Evoque meets your needs like never before and ensures you reach your destination, no matter the conditions.”
On the inside, it is roomier, more comfortable, and entertaining. The longer wheelbase ensures more rear knee room and more space for items. Additionally, it offers 10% extra luggage space (591 liters). Folding the rear seats can increase this space to 1,383 liters.
Gerry McGovern, Land Rover Chief Design Officer, said: “When Range Rover Evoque made its debut back in 2010, it transformed the world of compact SUVs and the new model is set to continue that remarkable journey. This characterful vehicle combines refinement and fun to create that all-important emotional reaction that will turn heads and make people smile.”
The new 2020 Range Rover Evoque is the first Land Rover that gets an electrification shot. It features a 48-volt mild-hybrid system that energizes itself during deceleration. The automaker says it delivers a 5.6l/100km fuel economy on the NEDC cycle. The new Evoque will boast all-terrain capability with all-weather assurance. It is also coming with the world’s first Ground View technology, “which really makes the bonnet invisible by projecting camera imagery onto the upper touchscreen to show the driver a 180-degree view under the front of the vehicle.”
Nick Rogers, Executive Director, Product Engineering, Jaguar Land Rover, stated: “Underneath the skin is an engineering and technical revolution. The architecture is all-new to accommodate both plug-in and mild hybrid systems, with only the door hinges remaining unchanged on the body. The chassis has been significantly reworked to make the most of the stiffer body, ensuring the characteristic ride comfort and refinement of a Range Rover.
“Evoque is now smarter than ever. The software that sits behind our infotainment system has been refined to provide a more intuitive customer experience. On top of that, we’ve added Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for seamless smartphone integration.”
The 2019 Evoque starts at AED 191,100, and we expect the 2020 model will sport a higher price tag.
