With the dropping temperature comes the season of dune-bashing and quad-biking. While this is a fun time for dune adventurers, they must not forget about following the safety rules. To tackle the reckless dune drivers, Sharjah Police have intensified the desert patrols and tightened the security across the desert areas of Sharjah.
Sharjah Police have established a mobile operations room to observe the actions of careless drivers. The Police are specifically watching dune-bashers around undesignated locations in Al Badair and Al Faya.
Brigadier Mohammad Rashid Bayat, director-general of police operations told media, “These violations and negative behavior lead to many accidents and create inconvenience for families and tourists who come to these areas.”
Besides preventing them from doing any stunts, desert patrols will also work to avert the noise and trouble created by tweaked engines.
Brig Bayat advised visitors to always follow the rules and regulations to make the desert a safe place for everyone. He also urged people to report any violations to the Police.
As a safety precaution, Police advise people to set up camps only in designated areas. Hana Saif Al Suwaidi, chairperson of the Environment Protected Area Authority (EPAA), insisted on setting up camps near main roads. It will make it easier for desert patrols to reach the scene quickly, in case of an emergency. Police will fine Dh2,000 to anyone found camping in an undesignated area.
Apart from that, littering and grilling in unauthorized areas are also prohibited and will fetch a fine of Dh1,000.
