Abu Dhabi has introduced a new road toll system, which will start working from October 15 to make traffic flow smoother. Four toll gates are set up at Al Maqta, Mussaffah, Sheikh Zayed and Sheikh Khalifa bridges. Motorists have to register at https://itps.itc.gov.ae to pay the toll while passing these gates. The new road toll system is made to save the time of drivers, reduce accidents, help the environment, and for the economic stability of the Emirate. The Integrated Transport Center has created the site we mentioned above, where the owners of vehicles licensed outside of Abu Dhabi can create an account by giving their Emirates ID number, the expiry date of the card, car license plate specifics, mobile number, and email. Users will then be requested to create a password and enter their credit card details, which is needful to pay initial Dh100 deposit. The user will get back Dh50, so essentially, they will only be paying Dh50 for registration.
Fortunately, Abu Dhabi registered vehicles will automatically get enrolled in the system. The vehicle owners will receive their login credentials through an SMS on their mobile numbers. They just have to add funds in their account to pay for the toll.
Instead of adding stickers to the car or waiting in lines for the toll ticket, vehicles will be identified by the license plate number, and a credit will be taken automatically from the owner’s account. This new road toll system is similar to the “Salik Toll,” but the charges are different. The rates are according to peak and off-peak hours.
Peak hours (7 am to 9 am and 5 pm to 7 pm, Saturday to Thursday) cost Dh4 while Off-peak hours (10 am to 5 pm, and 7 pm to 7 am, Fridays and public holidays) cost Dh2. A maximum of Dh16 will be charged to one vehicle per day regardless of how many journeys it made through the toll gates.
Motorists who cross this gate without registration will get a ten day-grace period to register their vehicles and pay the dues. Otherwise, they will be fined Dh100 on the eleventh day, Dh200 on the twelfth day, Dh400 on the thirteenth day and so on. The maximum fine they have to bear in this regard will be Dh10,000.
