After introducing the new 911 Carrera S eight months back, the German automaker has now unveiled the standard 2020 Porsche 911 Carrera coupe and cabriolet models. Both the base models of the Carrera S carry a 3.0L, twin-turbo flat-six engine producing 379 horsepower and 331 pound-feet of torque. The engine is mated to an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. For evaluation purposes, the robust 2020 Carrera S pumps out 443 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque.
Do not underestimate the power of the 3.0L twin-turbo. It allows the coupe model to hit 96 km/h in only 4.0 seconds. With the Sport Chrono Package, its acceleration improves by 0.2 seconds. For comparison, the Carrera S achieves the same speed in 3.5 seconds. Similar to the base Carrera, the Sport Chrono Package makes the S variant 0.2 seconds faster.
As evident, the 2020 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet would be a little slower in terms of acceleration due to its heavier weight. The open-top version can speed up to 96 km/h in 4.2 seconds. On the other hand, the 2020 Carrera S Cabriolet jumps to the same speed in 3.7 seconds. Adding the Sport Chrono Package makes both the models 0.2 seconds quicker than their standard versions.
Those who own or have seen the 2020 Carrera S might not be able to spot any significant difference in the 2020 Porsche 911 Carrera coupe and cabriolet models. The only visual difference is of the exhaust outlets. The S has two on each corner while the standard models just have one each side.
The interior and tech specifications are the same. The new models also have a 10.9-inch infotainment screen and Porsche Active Suspension Management system. The optional facilities consist of the Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes and 20- and 21-inch wheels, which are available for the Carrera S.
The new 911 Carrera coupe costs $98,750 (including $1,350 destination charges). The Cabriolet model starts at $111,550. If we talk about the rear-drive, hardtop Carrera S, it starts at $114,650 while the Carrera S Cabriolet costs $134,750. The deliveries will start in the first quarter of next year.
Comparing the prices of 2020 models with the 2019 Carrera coupe, the standard model starts at AED 374,200 while the 2019 cabriolet model goes for AED 417,000.
