Good news for Right Hand Drive (RHD) car markets, the newly unveiled 2020 Corvette Stingray will be the first Vette ever to come with both left- and right-drive layouts. The American automaker has been creating this nameplate from the last six decades but unfortunately never offered it in RHD setup to allow it to travel to the shores of RHD markets.
The automaker will first offer it in Australia under the banner of GM’s subsidiary Holden. Holden chief Dave Buttner stated, “The news that Corvette will now be built in right-hand-drive for the first time ever, and will be exported to Australia, is hugely exciting for our team at Holden and any Australian who loves high-performance cars.”
Other RHD markets that would love to welcome the 2020 Corvette Stingray in right-hand-drive setup might include the United Kingdom, South Africa, New Zealand, Japan, Ireland, and India. That being said, nothing is confirmed yet. Moreover, it is highly unlikely for India to get the new Vette because GM is not selling its cars there anymore.
As the automaker is only offering this mid-engine sports car with an eight-speed, dual-clutch automatic transmission, it would be easier for them to shift the steering wheel and only two pedals on the right side. This has also allowed Chevy to produce it economically.
The guys in the United Kingdom would have to wait for the official announcement from General Motors before they start dreaming of getting their hands on the first production mid-engined Corvette. Same would be the case for motorists in Japan and South Africa.
