The Japanese automaker has revealed a new set of images as well as some information regarding the upcoming 2020 Honda E, all-electric vehicle. The company’s press release makes it public that the small city car will feature an electric motor at the rear axle, which will create 142 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque (221 pound-feet). This instant torque would make it a fun car to drive around the city.
Although we do not know the performance figures, Autocar did get a chance to test drive its prototype. They reported it can hit 96 km/h (60 mph) in 8.0 seconds. What they love most about this zero-emission car was its rear-wheel-drive configuration, 50:50 weight distribution, and a low center of gravity. To make drives more exciting, it even offers ‘Sport Mode’.
Talking about the things we know, it would be an ideal city car thanks to its 4.3-meter turning radius. The comfort level is ensured through the four-wheel independent McPherson Strut suspension. And yes, it will not have traditional side mirrors. Instead, it will have cameras mounted on each side, which will show the real-time picture on the screens fitted at the corners of the dashboard.
To power the electric setup, the 2020 Honda E will have a 35.5-kWh battery. The battery will deliver 200 kilometers (124 miles) drive range. The best thing about this battery is the fast charging time; it will take just 30 minutes to recharge 80% of the battery. Those who want to compare it with the new Renault Zoe (available in the Middle East), should know that Zoe has 390 km (242 miles) of range owing to its 52-kWh battery.
The production of 2020 Honda E is near completion, so we can expect its premiere before the end of this year. People in Europe can even pre-order it.
