After setting a new electric car lap record (6:05.33) at Nürburgring Nordschleife, the Volkswagen ID R is going to defend Goodwood Hillclimb record in July. Last year, they bested the Lord March’s driveway in 43.86 seconds.
The difference between the previous Volkswagen ID R and the new model is VW’s special preparation for the Hillclimb record. The designers and engineers used all the previous experience to fine-tune the race car for Goodwood Hillclimb. Seeing the tweaks, we believe it will easily outdo the 43.86 seconds record.
“We have developed another evolutionary stage of the ID R – a sprint version with smaller batteries, in order to further reduce weight,” said Technical Director at Volkswagen Motorsport, François-Xavier Demaison. “We have also opted for a far more aggressive energy management strategy for the short distance. You need very high output for a very short time for the sprint in Goodwood.”
Talking about the Volkswagen ID R Nürburgring record, the engineers did well to create a perfect balance between energy recovery and power. By reducing the weight and opting for better energy management technique, the car is now well-placed to beat its previous record.
