The German automaker Porsche revealed a very light aluminum frame car in 1968 and named it the 909 Bergspyder. The one seat car was only 847 pounds with engine covered in plastic. However, it was rated at 275 hp and could take on any hill climb.
A few days back, Porsche disclosed that they researched on producing a mystical heir to the 909 Bergspyder based on the 981 Boxster, in 2015. They even created a model for reviewing purposes. However, that could not get a green signal from the board.
Porsche wanted to name the car the 981 Bergspyder and made it very light to remind us the 909. The problem with this car was the strict road laws in different countries. It could never meet them, so the automaker could not advance further. However, the automaker still has the prototype they developed, which now is a part of the official Porsche Museum in Stuttgart, Germany.
As we can see in the picture above, it is a single seater speedster without a windscreen and door handles. It got its seat from the 918 Spyder hypercar. It carries a 3.8-liter flat-6 good for 387 horsepower. The 2,422 pounds car can likely hit 0-60 mph in under 4.0 seconds and a Nürburgring lap in just 7:30. Unfortunately, we can never see it happen.
