According to a traffic fine discount campaign launched by Dubai police on February 6 this year, now drivers can renew their vehicle registration in Dubai without paying traffic fines.

Chief of Dubai Police, Maj Gen Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri said, “We have coordinated with the Roads and Transport Authority to allow individuals to renew vehicle registration in Dubai automatically regardless of accumulated fines or any periods of confiscation imposed on vehicles, or offenses committed. We want the public to benefit from the discount initiative”.

He further added, “Parking and Salik fines, however, are not included in the initiative, as they are not traffic offenses”

A motorist who did not commit any traffic crime since February 6 can get a 25% discount on fines. On the same lines, someone with a clear record of six months will get a 50% discount. Similarly, nine months of no traffic offense means a 75% saving while 100% discount is for motorists who didn’t break any traffic law in a year.

However, motorists from other cities or those with other RTA penalties have to clear their existing fines when they renew a vehicle registration.

In the start of May, a total of 457,154 drivers received a 25% discount on their accumulated traffic dues. The police also noticed a reduction of 19% in vehicles confiscation over traffic crimes.
