Drivers who do not let pedestrians cross at the designated places will now be fined Dh500 plus six traffic points. Dubai Police has installed “advanced surveillance systems” around pedestrian crossings, which will be active throughout the day to penalize the violators.
“There are lots of drivers who do not prioritize pedestrians who cross the roads from designated areas. This is a serious violation and can cause injuries and even death,” stated Major-General Mohammed Saif Al Zafeen, chairman of the Federal Traffic Council and Dubai Police assistant commander-in-chief for operations.
Maj-Gen Al Zafeen has requested drivers to take care of pedestrians by driving slowly near pedestrian crossings. “Motorists should reduce their speed as they approach pedestrian crossings, especially while driving through densely populated areas,” he stated.
From July 1, 2018, Dubai Police has been charging heavy fines from reckless drivers.
