To improve air quality in the UAE and make travels eco-friendly, Citi Taxi Sharjah has joined hands with Al-Futtaim Toyota to bring Toyota Hybrid-Electric Vehicles (HEV) on Sharjah streets. In this regard, Citi Taxi Sharjah has added 450 Toyota Camry Hybrid Electric Vehicles. With this addition, now half of the company’s fleet consists of hybrid-electric vehicles.
It is worth noting that these vehicles generate 53% fewer emissions compared to gasoline cars. Moreover, they give better mileage. The new Camry Hybrid offers 26 km/l in the normal driving conditions.
Al-Futtaim Toyota delivered the Camry Hybrids during an event organized in the company of Shaikh Majid bin Hamad Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Citi Taxi Sharjah, Abdul Aziz Al Jarwan, Director General of Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority, Shaikh Saqr bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Director of the Franchise and Transport License at Roads and Transport Authority – Sharjah.
Talking at the event, Shaikh Majid bin Hamad Al Qasimi, Chairman of Board of Directors, Citi Taxi Sharjah, stated, “We are extremely pleased with the addition of these 450 Toyota Camry Hybrid Electric Vehicles to our fleet. These vehicles will provide our customers with environmentally friendly travel solutions and help meet the growing demand for public transportation in the Emirate while further reiterating our commitment to support the UAE governments sustainability vision.”

Toyota has already started its venture of electrification and plans to introduce an electrified version in every model in the next six years. Having similar ambitions, the UAE government seeks inclusion of maximum electrified cars in their organizations. In the next 10 years, they want 10% of their vehicles on the roads to be electrified. This will make the environment healthier and cleaner for people to live in.
