Koenigsegg has been building superb cars for quite some time. However, they could never compete with the likes of Ferrari and Lamborghini due to their production limitations. This is going to change soon as CEO and founder Cristian von Koenigsegg told Bloomberg last Friday the automaker eyes on creating thousands of cars after 2022.
Koenigsegg is putting a light foot on the pedal, as they will start creating a few hundred supercars very soon. The first mass-produced supercar will be created in association with China’s NEVS. Do not think it will be cheap; reports suggest, it will cost around $1,050,000.
The new entry-level supercar will be a hybrid boasting a cam-less engine technology. The Swedish company will create these supercars at Saab plant in Sweden.
Von did not reveal much about this car except he gave us some details on the cam-less engine technology. The automaker looks to improve acceleration and torque while reducing emissions and enhancing fuel efficiency. Von told us in the past that the engine could use pure alcohol to start. Once complete, Von likes to license this tech to the interested companies.
We do not know much right now. However, the new supercar will put Koenigsegg on the driving seat and transform it from a limited model company into a full-scale automaker. Expect the new Koenigsegg car to launch by 2020. However, before that expect to see the Agera successor at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show.
